Rather new, but nonetheless promising band The Kooks was formed by soloist and guitarist Luke Pritchard, bassist Max Rafferty, drummer Paul Garred and guitarist Hugh Harris. The musicians met, when they were students at the Brighton Music College in the mid-00s. All the four shared their love for such commands as The Police, The Strokes, Fuknadelic and The Every Brothers. They organized their quartet; called it The Kooks in honor of David Bowie's Hunky Dory and started their concert activity. The public appreciated their cover for The Strokes' song Reptilia. Soon after it The Kooks were the support act before The Thrills and The Subways.
Their first singles – rocky Eddie's Gun and tender Sofa Song – started with a sound success in the British hit-parade. However, it was their near-punk track You Don't Love Me that brought them the instant fame. In January 2006, The Kooks released their brilliant debut Inside In/Inside Out. In October of the same year, it was issued in the USA too – after the band visited this country in March with their debut concert. Two years later The Kooks released their sophomore attempt Konk. Its release was connected to the statement that Max Rafferty left the group. Dan Logan from Cat the Dog became the new bassist for The Kooks. However, Konk yielded in the rocky moods, eclectic approach to the styles and playfulness of the youth.
